On Tuesday, June 23rd, members of the Fountain Hills Astronomy Club presented three Orion Starblast telescopes to the Fountain Hills Branch Library. Once library staff are trained on helping patrons learn to use the telescopes, patrons will be able to check out these telescopes similar to the way they check out books.
Donated by club member Dr. Craig Gimbel, these telescopes are the same model that has been used successfully by other astronomy clubs around the nation in their Library Telescope programs. An article on the ceremony and donation was recently published by the Fountain Hills Times.
The Library Telescope Program was begun in 2008 by the New Hampshire Astronomical Society. Their LTP page provides more information on the program as well as links to videos showing how to best use the telescopes.
